Dr. Morkus was found in her lab on April 4, 2019.  Her death is considered suspicious.  Doris Morkus is a renown microbiologist who studies viruses in ocean ecosystems. She has been the Director of Pacifica Knowledge Research Station for the past five years.

Dr. Morkus was born in Rome. Her father was a musician and her mother was a nuclear submarine physicist.  She received her masters in biochemistry from Harvard University and completed her Ph.D from the University of British Columbia.  She did a post-doctoral research in Paris for three years.  There she completed some groundbreaking research on "The Use of plasmids to generate fast-twitch muscles in nude mice".  Dr. Morkus speaks three languages: Italian, French and English.

Dr. Morkus is currently working on the use of biological toxins to treat nerve disease.  Her research has attracted the attention of the Nobel Prize committee.

Dr. Morkus is described as a brilliant woman who is difficult to get along with.  She once lost a lucrative grant by getting into a physical altercation with her senior advisor.  Her recent project  to raise money for the research station faced fierce opposition. Morkus planned to  develop a luxury condo resort at Pacifica to help raise  research funds.  When she faced opposition,  she declared that she should have the "academic freedom" to do what she wants.

Dr. Morkus was romantically involved with Dr. Hamish Slartibartfast.  She broke up with him two months before her death.  Six months ago, Dr. Morkus received counselling for anger management and alcohol abuse.   She has no known enemies but is not well liked by her associates. She lives alone with her parrot,  plays classical piano and has no known allergies.
